Vivian Wimberly Center for Ethics and Service Leadership

Established in 2002, The Vivian Wimberly Center for Ethics and Servant Leadership oversees the World House Scholars Program and the service learning program at ÌÇÐÄvlogÊÓƵ. The Center also hosts a number of lectures and workshops each year on a variety of ethical issues and provides co-curricular support for the university’s ethics minor, which is offered through the Department of Philosophy. Dr. Mark Y. A. Davies is the Founding Director.

Service Learning

Service learning at ÌÇÐÄvlogÊÓƵ gives students opportunities to apply what they are learning in the classroom through service in a community-based setting.

Since the inception of the service-learning program in the 2002 spring semester, OKCU has offered more than 600 service-learning courses.

Starting in the fall of 2003, a service learning course was made part of the general education requirement for all undergraduates.

World House Scholars Program

The World House Scholars program aspires to be a premier liberal arts program for preparing students to engage in lives of social and ecological responsibility.

All World House scholars participate in service learning projects each year, complete courses addressing issues of peace, justice, and ecological sustainability, and are required to complete at least one approved international education experience while at ÌÇÐÄvlogÊÓƵ.

Up to twenty first-year students and up to five sophomores will be selected each year to participate in the World House Scholars Program.
