Biography

Dr. Joe Thompson, associate professor of Arts Management, holds a Bachelor of Arts in Speech/Theatre from Southwestern ÌÇÐÄvlogÊÓƵ State University, a Master of Arts in General Theatre from Texas Tech University, and a Ph.D. in Fine Arts from Texas Tech University. He currently teaches Production 1, 2, and 3.

Dr. Thompson began his teaching career in 1984 serving as Technical Director/Designer and Director of the Fine Arts Center at Southwestern ÌÇÐÄvlogÊÓƵ State University. Thompson became the Lighting and Sound Instructor at Texas Tech University in 1994. In 2009, he became Associate Professor of Scenic Technology at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Thompson was an active member of the Southwest Theatre Association serving as Vice-President of Development, Chairperson of the Division of Design and Technology, Nominations Committee, and Audition Committee.

Thompson has served as designer/technical director for more than 300 productions during his forty-year career.
